Throughout the year, the City offers exciting opportunities to work with youth in the community in the following capacities:
Youth Leaders
Youth Leaders are responsible for facilitating Youth Drop-In Programs, special events and Pre-Teen Socials while actively engaging with youth participants and ensuring they are provided with enjoyable, safe, and quality programs/events. To apply for a Youth Leader position, upload your resume.
- Currently enrolled in secondary school education, or any combination of education, workplace training and experience deemed acceptable by the corporation.
- Previous experience in working with children 13-19 years of age.
- Volunteer experience in a camp or youth program setting would be an asset.
- Ability to take direction and work co-operatively in a team environment with staff, youth, parents/guardians.
- Good interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate activities and motivate youth participants and volunteers.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill in program instruction and working with youth 13-19 years of age.
- Must hold current Standard First-Aid and Basic Rescuer CPR-C Certificates.
- Must be willing and able to work flexible hours sometimes on evenings and weekends and on designated statutory holidays.
- Must be prepared to undergo a Vulnerable Sector Screening as a condition of employment.
Aquatics Instructors and Lifeguards
Apply in the spring using the Aquatics Application Form.
Minimum Requirements to be a Lifeguard:
- Enrolled in secondary school education or any acceptable combination of education, training and related experience.
- Previous related experience working with children, or as a Lifeguard is considered an asset.
- Standard First Aid, Basic Rescuer CPR-C and AED
- Applicants must be medically and physically fit to perform the duties of the position.
- Must be willing to obtain certification in High Five – Principles of Healthy Child Development.
- Must be prepared to undergo a Vulnerable Sector Check as a condition of employment. The ability to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends as required.
- Must be able to attend all mandatory Staff Training sessions
- Must hold current National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certification.
Minimum Requirements to be an Aquatics Instructor are the same as Lifeguard plus:
- Valid Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certification.
- Valid Bronze Cross or NLS Certification.
