City Centre Transportation Master Plan

What is this study about?

The City of Pickering’s population is expected to exceed 150,000 by the year 2036. One of the growth areas identified in the City’s 2021 Integrated Transportation Master Plan is the City Centre. As such, City of Pickering has undertaken the City Centre Transportation Master Plan study to:

  • Identity and address transportation needs and challenges within the City’s downtown core for future intensification over a 10 and 20-year development horizon.
  • Assess the multi-modal travel needs of the redevelopment plans, area road network operations, and transit, bicycle, and pedestrian networks to identify future transportation infrastructure needs.

  • Incorporate new and planned development within the study area (see below) in the assessment, including but not limited to, the comprehensive revitalization of The Shops at Pickering City Centre (formerly the Pickering Town Centre) shopping mall lands.

The study area shown in the Key Map below, generally comprises the lands bounded by Whites Road (Regional Road 38) to the west, Kingston Road (Regional Highway 2) to the north, Bayly Street (Regional Road 22) to the south, and Brock Road (Regional Road 1) to the east. The study area also extends to the north side of Kingston Road west of Liverpool Road (Regional Road 29) and lands adjacent to Notion Road, east of Brock Road to capture re/development lands that could impact future transportation conditions in the City Centre.
