Community members are invited to help shape the future of Pickering

The City of Pickering is inviting community members to help shape the future of Pickering by participating in the Official Plan Review process!

The City is currently undergoing a review of its Official Plan, known as ‘Pickering Forward’. This critical long-range document provides the framework for land use decision-making, ensuring growth occurs responsibly.

The Official Plan addresses important topics, such as:

  • Where new housing, industry, and shops will be located
  • What services will be needed (such as roads and parks)
  • How to preserve and enhance the natural environment
  • When, and in what order, the community will grow

To kickstart the conversation, the City has launched a discussion paper and survey at LetsTalkPickering.ca/PickeringForward. All feedback received will help inform the major topics in the Official Plan. Deadline to complete the survey is October 4, 2024.

Those interested are invited to take part in one of the City’s upcoming public information centres:

  • Tuesday, September 24 at 6 pm – Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex (no registration required)
  • Wednesday, September 25 at 7 pm – virtual via Zoom (registration required at pickering.ca/PickeringForward)

“As Pickering is projected to be one of Ontario’s growth leaders, a comprehensive review of the City’s Official Plan is crucial for addressing the evolving needs of our growing community and for building a robust framework to deliver essential infrastructure and amenities,” said Mayor Kevin Ashe. “I encourage everyone to participate  – learn more, complete the survey, or attend a public information centre. Your valued input will be instrumental towards helping to shape the future of our community.”

The Planning Act of Ontario requires that Official Plans be reviewed every five years to ensure they conform to Provincial legislation, policy, and plans, as well as the Region of Durham’s Official Plan.
