Official Statement - Mayor Ashe Congratulates Premier Ford and MPP Bethlenfalvy on their Re-election
Pickering, ON, February 27, 2025 – On behalf of the City of Pickering and its Members of Council, I extend my sincerest congratulations to Premier Doug Ford on his re-election and third consecutive majority mandate from the people of Ontario. His government’s continued investment in the long-term health and prosperity of our province, along with its strategic plan to protect residents, businesses, and communities from President Trump’s economic sanctions, remain crucial for Ontario’s future.
Locally, I offer my heartfelt congratulations to Peter Bethlenfalvy on his re-election. The voters of Pickering have spoken decisively, reaffirming their confidence in his leadership and the outstanding work he has done over the past six plus years as our MPP, President of the Treasury Board, and Minister of Finance. I look forward to continuing our work together to support the residents and businesses of Pickering and further strengthening the partnership between our two governments.
I also thank Marit Stiles, Bonnie Crombie, and Mike Schreiner for helping to reinforce our shared priorities, including healthcare, affordable housing, and education. I also want to recognize and thank Ibrahim Daniyal, Khalid Ahmed, and all Pickering-Uxbridge candidates for stepping forward and offering to serve our community at Queen’s Park. Their dedication to public service is commendable.
As the Ford Government moves forward, I am confident it will act swiftly on its commitments, particularly finalizing a new, modernized fiscal deal for municipalities and their residents. For Pickering, this means breaking ground on the much-anticipated post-acute care hospital announced last year. Additionally, I urge MPP Bethlenfalvy to collaborate with federal counterparts to secure a tri-party funding agreement for the purchase of Frenchman’s Bay, so we can ensure it is returned to the public domain and safeguarded from unwanted development.
