Pickering invites community to help shape user experience at new Pickering Heritage & Community Centre
November 11, 2024 – The City of Pickering invites community members to have their say on the types of programs and services that should be offered at the new Pickering Heritage & Community Centre.
Construction is well underway on this 44,000 square-foot facility, located on the upper site of the Pickering Museum Village (2365 6th Concession Road). This dynamic space will bring the Pickering Public Library, Museum, and Community Centre together to offer an impressive array of amenities, including:
- Exhibit gallery
- Multi-purpose hall (with a stage)
- Kitchen, suitable for public programs
- Library Express Kiosk and Local History Experience Centre
- Collections storage
- Gift shop
- Outdoor program spaces
The City is hosting three Public Open Houses for those who wish to learn more, engage with project staff, or provide their feedback in person:
- November 13 from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm at the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex
- November 20 from 11:30 am – 2:00 pm & 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm at the Greenwood Community Centre
- November 21 from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm at the Dr. Nelson F. Tomlinson Community Centre (staff will also be in attendance this day to revisit the Claremont Memorial Park Master Plan – residents are invited to learn about results from the previous playground equipment survey, share input, and discuss updating the Plan).
These open houses will also feature an opportunity for residents to learn about the Greenwood Park Redevelopment Plan. Located at 3551 Greenwood Road, the park, designed in 1970, is outdated and in need of revitalization. Once the Pickering Heritage & Community Centre facility is complete, the existing community centre in Greenwood Park will be decommissioned. As such, staff have launched a survey to understand how neighbouring residents currently use the park, and what improvements community members would like to see within the space. To learn more about this project or to complete the survey, visit LetsTalkPickering.ca/Greenwood – comments received will help inform the redevelopment of the area.
“The Pickering Heritage & Community Centre will be our first new community centre in decades, offering year-round access to diverse programs and experiences designed to meet the needs of the growing community,” said Mayor Kevin Ashe. “I encourage everyone to complete the survey and share their input on the programs and services they’d like to see offered, as this feedback will be crucial in ensuring the facility meets the needs and expectations of our residents and visitors.”
Visit LetsTalkPickering.ca/PHCC to complete the survey and view project details. Feedback received will help shape the types of programs and services offered within the facility, expected to open Spring 2026. Deadline to complete the survey is December 8, 2024.
