Cultural Tourism Initiative
In 2020, the Pickering Museum Village received $150 000 in funding from the Department of Canadian Heritage to create a Cultural Tourism Initiative for the region. The PMV teamed up with Central Counties Tourism, Durham Tourism, and many partner organizations to create tourism routes throughout Durham Region.
Three tourism routes were launched in 2021: the Anne & Maud Experience, partnering with Pickering and Uxbridge stakeholders; Drama in Durham - War on Whisky, partnering with numerous breweries, wineries, and cultural organizations in South Durham; and Haunted Durham, a spook-tacular tourism route for all things haunted.

Combination Barn Report
The combination barn was the first significant redesign of a permanent exhibit at the museum since the 1970s. Construction of the building was completed by City of Pickering Capital Assets team, and the exhibit was led by the Museum Conservator, with the assistance of the staff team, volunteers and partners. The exhibit explores farming in Ontario in the 1850s-70s and highlights the Pickering farmers who led the province in purebred stockbreeding.
Each stall was given a theme with hands-on activity stations designed to be fun, educational and connect directly to Pickering’s history of farming.
Collections Storage Project
The Collections Storage and Shelving Project undertaken by the Pickering Museum Village was a three phase project designed by the Museum staff to inventory, clean, pack and relocate artefacts from four buildings; Blacksmith Shop, Upper Site Warehouse, Gate 3 Drive Shed, and the Log Barn. These four buildings are all scheduled for construction and repair work that will allow the Museum to utilize these spaces more effectively, improve storage conditions, and better secure artifacts stored and displayed within them.
