Frenchman's Bay Harbour Entrance
Reconstruction of the Frenchman's Bay Harbour Entrance was approved by Council on November 5, 2012. The new break-waters and dredging of the harbour entrance channel were completed under the project management and construction services of the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority. The work resulted in the creation of a safe harbour entrance that supports the marine functions of the bay, while preserving and enhancing the ecological conditions. This project is an integral part of the City of Pickering's overall commitment to make the Pickering Waterfront a place that achieves a wide range of objectives including public use and recreation, environmental sustainability, enhanced tourism opportunities and commercial linkages.
This $9 million project was funded in part by the Provincial and Federal governments, with each level providing $3 million. $1.5 million of the City of Pickering's share was provided by the Region of York as part of their South East Collector Enhancement package.
